So, there’s a crane at the office.
No, it’s not IN the office. It’s outside, in the courtyard/arboretum. I don’t know where it came from, and I don’t know if it’s going to leave. It’s like 4 feet tall, and pretty cool looking. I wouldn’t go near it, though. That beak could take an eye out.
Anyway, I called Maricopa County Animal Control and left them a message. “Yeah, there’s a big bird here. It’s not teaching us anything about the alphabet. Instead, it’s eating our fish and chasing small mammals.”
Maybe they’ll come and take it to a lake or the zoo or something. If not, I’ll get a hunting license and we’ll pay a trip to the taxidermist and have a creepy piece of office decoration.
Pictures? Yeah, I got some:

Just got this email:
from oai@azwings.com

subject Rock BandDear Josh,
We are so sorry that you are so upset with the results of the RockBand Finals.
We thought the tournament was fun and competitive. We wanted you to know that your comments
were directed to corporate. Corporate did hear your message. Corporate’s protocol for comments
is to have the stores address their own issues and resolve them in the politest manner
possible, thus, your comments were directed back to our store.
We responded by apologizing for your feelings that the contest was unfair. We
never like our guests to feel that they were mistreated in any way. We would like to offer your
team another chance to re-compete for the top prize. Your team is invited back, next Thurs,
May 8th at 9:00 p.m. to compete against the winners score. We will award your team the $300
prize if you should out perform their numbers. The competition will be played in the Hard Mode, so
please prepare this week in the difficult level.
We like to play fair, so we look forward to your team’s competitive performance,
next Thursday, The 8th at 9:00 p.m. Good Luck to your team!Management at Buffalo Wild WingBuffalo Wild Wings

My reply:
I’m not going to bother with this, as the team that beat was most definitely the best team - and frankly, I don’t think we can beat them. However, it still doesn’t change the fact that things like this should be exclusive to customers. When people sign up to participate in things like this, we expect to be playing against other customers, and that the winners will be strictly customers - nobody employed by the company sponsoring or running the competition should be allowed to compete. Period.
Thanks, but no.
I’m over it.

I’ve had a nice weekend. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes.
Though I could’ve organized some crazy outing last night, or at least a birthday dinner with a bunch of friends today - I quite honestly didn’t feel like it. I tend to be the guy who organizes things. If somebody doesn’t do it, then the cool and fun stuff won’t happen - so it may as well be me, right? Plus, that means I get to call all the shots. Anyway, it was just nice to have a really chill day and relax a bit.
Today I watched the Suns DESTROY the Spurs with my family. A special thank you to Boris Diaw and crew for kicking so much ass today. After they went home, I ended up watching Juno. Awesome awesome awesome movie. It’s full of happy, and is pretty real. I dig it. A lot.
…the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what-have-you. The right person is still going to think the sun shines out of your ass. That’s the kind of person that’s worth sticking with.
That’s some good shit, right there.

How disappointing. The email went straight to the people I had already talked to, and not a district manager or anything of the sort. Guess I’ll be snail mailing my original complaint…

subject Rock BandJoshua,
I am sorry that your team was never informed of any of the rules regarding the
rock band tournament the week that you won. I ran the tournament every week
except for the week that your band participated. The rules were passed out in
all the prior weeks, and all the other bands were informed that the finals would
be played on hard difficulty. Some of them even played in our guitar hero
tournament which did the same. The employee(Trent)was not in charge of running
the tournaments he just helped out last night, and him being an employee did not
give him any unfair advantage to the tournament. I hope that you will still come to Buffalo Wild Wings. We will keep in mind your comments and suggestions for our next tournament.
Thank You,
Shanna Sabo

Last night, I competed in the final round of a Rock Band competition at Buffalo Wild Wings in Gilbert (1475 W. Elliot Road
Gilbert, AZ 85233).
We didn’t win. I feel like we got hosed, and that things were kinda rigged against us. Here’s an email I am sending to Buffalo Wild Wings corporate. Maybe they’ll do something about it… maybe not. Either way, I feel better for getting it off my chest. It was quite frustrating last night.
Long story short:
This BWW location ran a free Rock Band promotion over the past month, in conjunction I believe with a beer company who fronted a cash prize. Winners from each week qualified for the final round, which took place last night.
My team won last week, and we arrived last night to some strange news. The qualifying rounds were played on medium difficulty. The final round ended up being played on hard difficulty. I later asked other bands if they knew about this, and none of them knew prior to arriving that night - except for one band.
This one band that knew happened to have a member who not only worked at this BWW location, but was running these competitions each week. I asked him if he knew about the difficulty change for the final round, and he told me he had known about it for a few weeks. He had no answer for me when I asked him why other teams were not told this information.
Whether this information was kept from other teams on purpose, or if it was just a poor oversight by those running the competition - this is the reason that employees should not take part in a contest their company is putting on.
I do not know if your company has a corporate policy regarding such promotions, but if you don’t - I would highly recommend making such a policy. As a customer, I feel that the team with the employee had an unfair advantage in knowing information that the other customer only teams did not.
Oh, and that team with the employee won the overall prize.
If I hear anything back, I’ll be sure to post it here.

Usually when I’m at the office, I run across the street to AJ’s to grab lunch from their salad bar. Recently, I’ve been all over the balsamic dressing. I’ve always known ranch dressing is counter-intuitive to eating a salad, but I just never did anything about it.
Well, today, there was no balsamic dressing at the salad bar. Teh horrors! I wasn’t terribly distraught, but another lady was. So much so, that she asked the manager if they had any, but it just wasn’t out for some reason. Turns out they didn’t, but he was very willing to go grab a bottle off the shelves and leave it for us. When he left it, he took off the wrapping, and for some reason unscrewed the top. He then placed the bottle down, and put the top on the bottle - but did not screw it on.
The other lady tells me to go ahead, so I do. I pick up the bottle, and start to shake it - you know, balsamic dressing, what with the mix of oils, could use a good shake before pouring. Well, I clearly didn’t see the guy not screw the cap on. Balsamic dressing all over the place, but mostly on me. The manager offered to pay for dry cleaning next door, which I gave a polite smile and nod to. Truth be told, I could care less about the shirt, and the pants were already on their way to the trash, as I had managed to drop some super glue onto them earlier. So… whatever. I got a new TBC shirt at the office, and the day moves along.
Oh, but one other thing… walking back from AJ’s, the sprinklers are on, and watering the sidewalk as much as the grass. This happens at my apartment complex, and usually I’m able to kick the top a bit and turn the sprinkler heads. Well, guess what happened when I tried that? Whoosh! Water starts gushing up… a miniature urban geyser on Camelback Rd. Awesome. Cue myself aimlessly looking around and whistling as I walk in the opposite direction.
See what I mean, though? This just isn’t my day. But at least I can laugh at myself.

I had a revelation today, so I thought I would share:
schlagdogg (1:23:05 PM): if you were an animal, i think you would be best suited as a lion
Auto Response from schlaggers33 (1:23:08 PM): sex and violence
schlagdogg (1:23:24 PM): male lions sit around all day while the females hunt, and then when something gets killed they jump in and eat up
schlagdogg (1:23:33 PM): hell, i’ll take that
schlagdogg (1:23:46 PM): on top of that, they also get to do it with any of the female lions in the pride
schlagdogg (1:23:51 PM): lions = awesome
schlagdogg (1:23:54 PM): the end

I’m pretty much spamming this all over the place, and nearly forgot about my very own, oft-neglected blog!
I’m doing the annual ALS walk this Saturday, and have really slacked on the fundraising side of things!
If you could donate anything to the cause, it would be MUCH appreciated! $5, $50, $50 bajillion. Any amount is okay. And remember - charitable donations are tax deductible, and they’ll send you a receipt so you can list it on your taxes.
Anyway, here’s the link:

I have a feeling that some will mock me for this revelation (as now it just seems really obvious), but I just realized why Arby’s is called Arby’s.
Think about it: Arby = RB = Roast Beef.
Edit: I thought to look it up on wikipedia, and turns out - this isn’t the case. But it’s a heck of a coincidence. So, um, now you know.
