Snakes on a Plane: The Drinking Game Redux

imonurplanekillinursnakes.jpgSo last year when Snakes on a Plane was released to DVD, I came up with a drinking game to celebrate the release.

In short, everyone got really drunk really fast, and I’ve since decided that the rules needed a bit of refinement.

Two horrible ideas in the first version were “drink when there are snakes on the screen” and “drink when Sam Jackson swears”.

A drinking game like this should start the night off… not start AND end the night for most of us.

So here’s attempt number two:

  • Drink when a snake dies. (multiple snakes at once = one drink)
  • Drink when a human dies. (multiple humans at once = one drink)
  • Drink when the movie goes into “Snakevision”.
  • Boobies = Drink!
  • Drink when Sam Jackson gives a command (i.e. repeat after me, stay safe, listen to me)
  • When Sam Jackson says THE line… finish your drink!
  • If there’s anything left by the time the credits start rolling, finish your mother f’ing drink!

26 years and counting

I’ve had a nice weekend. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes.

Though I could’ve organized some crazy outing last night, or at least a birthday dinner with a bunch of friends today - I quite honestly didn’t feel like it. I tend to be the guy who organizes things. If somebody doesn’t do it, then the cool and fun stuff won’t happen - so it may as well be me, right? Plus, that means I get to call all the shots. Anyway, it was just nice to have a really chill day and relax a bit.

Today I watched the Suns DESTROY the Spurs with my family. A special thank you to Boris Diaw and crew for kicking so much ass today. After they went home, I ended up watching Juno. Awesome awesome awesome movie. It’s full of happy, and is pretty real. I dig it. A lot.

…the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what-have-you. The right person is still going to think the sun shines out of your ass. That’s the kind of person that’s worth sticking with.

That’s some good shit, right there.

Movie and music recommendations

I’m on a total blogging binge right now…

Here are some movies I’ve seen recently that I would recommend:

  • Into the Wild - Pretty good story based on true events… I’d like to read the book now. Burning question from this movie - the girl at the trailer park community… would you if you were in his shoes?
  • Across the Universe - I’m a Beatles fan, and admittedly I do like the occasional musical. This one is pretty cool. Would be better on weed, I imagine.
  • Walk the Line - Johnny Cash = awesome. The end. Also, Reese Witherspoon is ridiculously hot in this movie.
  • Event Horizon - Best sci-fi horror movie ever. Yes, better than Jason X. (Yes, that was a joke).

And some music:

  • Into the Wild soundtrack - Eddie Vedder acoustic FTW.
  • Flobots - Handlebars - I can ride my bike with no handlebars… can you?
  • Ludo - Love Me Dead - The video is awesome.

And some games:

  • Portal - The cake is a lie
  • Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - It’s just fun.

Aaaaand I’m spent.

I just realized something. Martin Lawrence is the black Rob Schneider of comedy movies.

Mass Effect = Porn?

The “Sex-Box” Race for President

This has got to be one of the most biased, uninformed articles I’ve ever read about video games. Dare I say, this guy is on par with Jack Thompson.

He makes assumptions about a game he has neither played nor seen (Mass Effect = virtual sex game? What??? Where?). He then goes on to berate the gaming industry, which has given this game the equivalent of a movie’s R rating. Why doesn’t he spend the same effort going after the MPAA, then, for their movie rating system. It clearly must be inadequate.

Why don’t these people understand that when it comes down to it, you can’t put this responsibility solely on the sources of our entertainment. They do their part, in placing ratings and warnings on their products. It is down to each individual parent to take the responsibility to watch what their kids are doing and to figure out what their kids are listening to, watching, and playing.

Simple as that.

Joyeux Noël

Netflix is great. I have rated hundreds of movies I have seen on a five star scale; and, based on that feedback, they have given me some good movie recommendations.

I got the latest one yesterday, and I watched it immediately. It’s a French film from 2005 called Joyeux Noël (translated: Merry Christmas), and it is about the Christmas Truce of 1914 during World War I. I remember hearing the story as a side note during a high school world history class, but the true meaning of the temporary truce was lost on me until I saw this movie.

If you’re looking for a movie that captures the Christmas spirit of humanity and caring for your fellow man, this one is worth the rental.

Edit: After reading over this post, I feel like I could be in one of those Reading Rainbow book reviews. Just saying… it has that feel, no?

From the Screen to To Your Stereo Part II

NFGI remember when I was first getting into the pop-punk scene, NFG’s “From the Screen to Your Stereo” was easily one of my favorites (still is). The idea behind the concept album was to grab songs from various movies (Neverending Story, Robin Hood, The Goonies) and do their own takes on them.

Well, they’re doing it again. And on many tracks, they are letting members of other bands (such as Taking Back Sunday, Cartel, and Eisley) join in on the fun.

From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II comes out on September 18, and will feature music from movies such as City of Angels, Romeo + Juliet, Dirty Dancing, and Donnie Darko. You can view the full list, as well as other details, here.

They’ve been spreading their songs around on the internet, and I’m going to go ahead and link to those here so you can check them out for yourselves:

See Yellow

I think Fox is missing out on some great marketing opportunities with The Simpsons Movie, which is being released to theaters tomorrow.

Now, it’s cool that they have a partnership with 7-Eleven to give a handful of stores Kwik-E-Mart makeovers.

However, they’re really missing out on a bigger opportunity. Why not slap a sticker on all of the Slurpee machines, add a special temporary flavor, and temporarily call them Squishee machines? 7-11 is smarter than I first thought. Check it out, yo!

The ideas could go on and on: Burger King could sell Krusty Burgers, Budweiser could sell Duff Beer, etc.

On that note, I’m hungry. Off to my nearest 7-11 I go for a Squishee, Buzz Cola, and a pink donut with sprinkles… (I’m such a sheep… but at least I’m a yellow sheep… yellow because The Simpsons are yellow… not because I’m half Asian….)

Die Hard 4.0

I think my brain would have reacted the same way if I hadn’t gone in expecting an “over the top in every way imaginable” action movie.

Penny Arcade

That said, I still love John McClane, in as much of a hetero fashion as I possibly could. I highly recommend this movie if you’re in the mood for an action flick. Just… remember to shift your brain into neutral and enjoy the ridiculousness.

Fun at work

Today is Good Friday, but for those of us working at U-Haul HRIS, it feels like Christmas. Each of us got brand spanking new 24″ LDC widescreen monitor to play with. Not only will it be great to code with over 200 columns of characters in Visual Studio, it also looks really really nice.

The new setup at work

Yes, I did some quick Photoshop work on a high-res Halo 3 screenshot. I think it’s hilarious. Click the thumbnail below to view the whole (very large) image. Note the details on the Warthog…

Halo 3, U-Haul style
