You say you want a resolution..

Three things:

  • Get into better shape, so I can dominate the John Muir Trail. This means being consistent with gym visits, and eating better. Probably more hard alcohol over beer, too. Good thing I’ve discovered scotch..
  • Be even better with my money. I will keep my own set minimums in my checking and savings accounts, set budgets for types of spending, and learn how to invest wisely in the stock market.
  • Lastly, I will keep my room clean, and stay on top of my laundry pile. Which means that there shouldn’t be a “pile” of laundry in my room ever again. I’ll be honest - this will probably be the hardest one for me to keep.

That’s it. I’m out. Happy New Year, by the way!

Thanks, Lance!

The other night, Lance Armstrong cameo’d on my iPod to congratulate me on setting a new PR for the mile.

When I got back to my computer and sync’d my iPod with Nike’s website, I was told that I had just completed a 7′59″ mile!

To most people, that’s not a big deal. But I’m the kid, who back in junior high, would be struggling to break 12 minutes because I was too busy sucking on my inhaler.

So thanks, Lance!

I’ll have to give myself a self high five.

Laziness

In January, I set up a challenge for myself - to run 35 miles in a month. I did it, and then I stopped running. I stopped going to the gym. Laziness set in, and I decided for a while that I was okay with that.

Well, I’m not okay with that anymore.

I am setting some standards for myself that I will stick to:

  • I will not eat junk for a meal more than once a week. This includes pretty much anything greasy - burgers, fries, fried chicken, etc.
  • I will work out at least four times a week.

That’s it. Pretty simple, right?

In addition - to keep me motivated, I have allowed my brother to slap me in my sleep any week that I do not live up to these goals. He will be able to keep tabs on my progress here. So, for as long as I live with him, I have this motivation in tact. For now, I think it’s a good plan.

In case Nike never gets around to updating the feed for my goal tracker, I took the liberty of taking a screenshot:

Nike Plus January 2007

Next? 50 miles in February.

Bring it.

The Second Coming

Nike has a website where you can create your own mashups of the “Second Coming” commercial. I played around with it for a while, but I don’t have the patience to make anything halfway cool. This guy - a fellow Suns fan - did, though:

The commercial features the song “The Second Coming” by Juelz Santana. It’s not on iTunes yet, and the only versions I can find elsewhere seem to be bad rips from the commercial. Oh well. I’ll wait. I want that song. It would be good to run to.

Speaking of which.. gotta go!

Snow in Arizona

Last night, Danny and I went over to the workout center at our apartment complex. I grabbed the wrong pair of shoes (the ones without the Nike+ sensor), so I went back to change. On my way back, it started to rain. Except, it wasn’t rain. I thought maybe it was hail. I had seen it hail around here before. But then, the ice wasn’t settling on the ground. I then realized how slowly the precipitation was floating to the ground, and realized it was snowing! In Tempe, Arizona!

Well, all of Arizona got at least some of the white stuff last night. Some more than others. In Tempe, we didn’t get enough to cover the ground at all - it all melted before it hit.

But in other parts of the state, actual snow could be seen on the ground and on cars and plants. Some people even made little snowmen!

Here’s my favorite picture, from Tucson:

That’s one of the Wildcat statues on the U of A mall. Credit goes to azpat on flickr.

Nike+ January goal

I’m still waiting for the day that Nike+ provides XML feeds to allow users to post stats at will on the web. But until that day, I will have to be satisfied with things such as this:

That’s right. I will give up beer if I don’t keep running this month. In other words, expect to see me at the gym quite a bit this month. I almost feel like I should bump the goal up, but at the same time - I’m new to this running thing - and it’s only a part of my regular workout, which also includes other cardio on the elliptical machines and weights.

Does anyone else have the Nike+iPod kit? I know Mike does. If you do, what’s your power song? Or if you don’t, what would be your power song? That song that gives you a little bit of a push and will help you finish strong?

Mine: The Time Is Now by John Cena (yes, seriously).
